Saxophone Ensemble Program

The Saxophone Ensemble Program at Avon has been developed as an extension of the private lesson program, and takes place during the chamber music season (mid-November through early May).  Students have the opportunity to explore other saxophones than their primary instrument during the chamber music season.  During each chamber season, two saxophone ensembles are assembled.

The Intermediate Saxophone Ensemble is somewhat smaller (10-12 members), performs in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest at the District and State Level, and has consistently received gold ratings at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest.  The Intermediate Saxophone Ensemble rehearses for one hour per week.

The Advanced Saxophone Ensemble, which includes students from the Intermediate Saxophone Ensemble, as well as advanced students, typically rehearses and performs more advanced literature, such as orchestral and band transcriptions, or has had pieces arranged specifically for the ensemble. This ensemble rehearses once a week for three hours, with additional sectional rehearsal time throughout the week.  Previously, this ensemble has performed at various concerts throughout the year (Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Music Theater, and Avon Chamber Championships), and has been invited three times to perform at the Indiana University School of Music Saxophone Audition Weekend Recital.  Finally, in an effort to increase preparation and performance excellence, the Advanced Saxophone Ensemble has prepared an audition CD for the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in 2010 and 2011.

If a student wishes to be considered for inclusion in one of the two saxophone ensembles, please contact me in early November.
